Jalandhar : Due to the implementation of Model Code of Conduct in Jalandhar in wake of the impending Lok Sabha by-poll, development works worth Rs 39.03 crore have been hanging in fire thereby jeopardizing the development ofv the city.
As per the information, the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar had called tenders for works pertaining to Rs 35.89 crore of the Building and Road branch which included construction of existing road opposite Garden restaurant till cool road (20.28 lakh), Paving and laying of interlocking tiles in villaged Dakoha (37.96 lakh), construction of footpaths in Adarsh Nagar (46.12 lakh), Paving and laying of RMC in Vijay Nagar (30.98 lakh), Paving and laying of RMC in Islamganj (41.56 lakh), Paving and laying of RMC in Tagore Nagar near Shehnai Palace (36.28 lakh), Paving and laying of Tiles in Guru Nanak Pura and Ekta Nagar (37.60 lakh), Paving and laying of RMC in Chuggiti (36.04 lakh), Paving and laying in Gopal Nagar (23.51 lakh)

However, due to implementation of the Model Code of Conduct the work on these projects had not started much to the dismay of the common man. Though the entire process to start work on these projects was complete but as the by-poll was announced the work was stuck. But, the officers are describing it as an ongoing process which will be completed after the MCC is lifted.
Commissioner of Corporation Abhijit Kaplish when contacted said that the works will be started very soon after the code is lifted. He said that civic body has already completed the entire formalities and the work will be started after the completion of the election process.
