I believe that the education is the most effective weapon to transform the destiny of every girl child in any society. -Vatsala Gupta

Newly-appointed additional deputy commissioner of police in Jalandhar Vatsala Gupta wants all girls to dream big, set their target high and then put all their efforts to achieve it. She says that the God has blessed the girls with indomitable spirit of hard work and resilience. They must also understand one basic rule of life that commitment and perseverance always bear fruits, she explains to Jalandhar Bulletin.

A 2015 batch IPS officer Vatsala Gupta, was vigorously pursuing her doctoral research in Environmental Science and Biotechnology. Two years prior that, she found herself at crossroads, when her father was diagnosed with cancer. Being the eldest child, she along with accompanying her father for treatment to Mumbai, was emotionally supporting her mother and younger sister.

Her mom had to stay back in Mumbai for six months for her father’s treatment. With Vatsala’s return to Lucknow, she dropped out of the doctorate programme and took care of her sister, who then had college to complete.

In June 2014, when her father returned, he inspired her to prepare for Civil Services. Vatsala fought all odds, overcame tremendous mental trauma and agony and with her dedication cracked the 2015 Civil Service exam. She said, ‘’despite all odds, constant support of my family, relatives and friends especially my father helped me to achieve this feat. Therefore I say, hard work and dedication always pays.’’
She emphasizes that empowered and educated girls are also basic pillars for making India a front ranking country in the world.
